Bloody sunday - Northern Ireland

Working on my speech, the conflict on Northern Ireland.

In Derry on 30th January 1972, the Civil Rights march that became known as ‘Bloody Sunday’ had begun.  Since internment, demonstrations had been banned, but on Sunday 30th January 1972, several thousand people in Derry marched towards the city centre.  All factions in the Catholic community united against internment under the band of Civil Rights, singing “We walk hand in hand”.  The British army and police had decided not to stop the march, but to contain it within the Bogside area.

About 14 people was murdured that sunday and there for the name - Bloody sunday

Took me a sec before i realise that U2's song "sunday bloody sunday" is based on this day.

peace out!
